Blue crane’s eyes – Chap 51

CHAP 51

When they arrived, their eyes saw for the first time what they’ve never seen before. The sea shore expanded ten inches from its usual limit. Normally there is sand to walk through before the feet touch the waters. But now, as soon as they walked on the last stair, their feet immediately got wet as if they just stepped into a shower. Li examined the wall and noticed that the reason it was not on the ground was because it was built out of rocks from the bottom up. As she continued to explore what changed, Li note the chairs covered in dust and foliage until Iv yelled and pointed at the ocean. Terra was jumping up and down. “Oli came with another boy who was very small, but with the strength of a leafcutter ant. I saw the boy hugging the tree, and before I blinked twice, he was lifting it from its soil. The slight movement of the roots coming out caused the main building of the school to tremble and the windows to shatter.” Park reported what she saw when she raced outside to check on Musa.  Most students thought of it as a small quake when they saw their chairs moving and light dancing above their heads. But Park bored of professor Themba’s session was observing through the window and suddenly saw Musa running to the front. With the ground trembling and her feet having a hard time to stand straight, she spotted a boy climbing on the top of the tree and lifting the tree so hard to the point where it wasn’t steady anymore. “Hey..” She heard professor Themba yelling while running outside. As much as she wanted to get a look of him, she had to tend to Musa first who was about to get crushed while watching the boy running towards the ocean.

Half an hour later, Musa assured Park that he is fine. And the latter asked if she could catch the boy who just uprooted the focal beauty of the institution. She listened and took off the stairs leading behind the school gate. Standing at the seaside, she turned to all the points of the horizon and saw nothing. She could only hear the waves and smell strain of dust which indicated that the boy ran through it.

“Let’s go back. I don’t feel good about this.” Li stood in front of Iv and Park holding her hands up. She and Iv saw Park taking off and hurried to find her before anyone notices that she crossed the gate during school hours. “Park, we have to go back please” Iv pleaded.

“I didn’t mean to” A voice echoed right behind Park and Iv. Oli and another boy with twists in his head tiptoed towards them. From the way he keeps on turning his head, he knows that slowing down is the only way to approach the girls. “Where is your friend? The one who just destroyed our front yard” Park asked. “It was ugly anyway” Oli responded. Park was already frustrated by the terror from the shake, now Oli’s answer just got on her last nerve. She hummed twice with a pause and blew a whistle so loud, Iv and Li had to cover their ears. As she rose above the ground, dust breezed around her. “Woow” the other boy standing with Oli stopped breathing. Park was about five feet rising like a tumbleweed. And before Oli knew what was happening, he was in the air holding onto Park’s arm. “Why our school?” Park asked staring at Oli’s soul who instead of answering kept on nodding, begging for mercy. His eyes glanced below his feet and knew he had no chance of wrestling her. The more she whirled above the ocean, the more the waters rose higher. As if they were boiling underneath her feet. The girls and the strange boy who came with Oli saw a vague of water flowing in her direction and him dropping in the foam of the sea, just to be thrown back up again by Terra’s fluke. And down by liquids from her blow hole. He tried to get up, but Terra swam back and came backwards with its large tail facing the shores. She did a 360 turn, making the ocean water dance around her, then jumped above and splattered water on him. If the school was not closed by a fence built in rocks, Oli could have passed through and probably landed on top of the tree that was in the front yard. The boy with twisted hair watched from afar, mouth still opened as if he was dreaming, but suddenly woke up when he saw Park walking to Oli crumpling at the shore, holding onto his ribs. It’d be easier to count the nerves popping on his face rather than the bones remaining in his ribs. And from the way Park moved like an angry bull, he better disappear out of her sight, otherwise the arms he is holding up are going to end up torn like the rest of his organs. Head bending to level up his, Park whispered “Now, hear me well. You tell your friend who just ripped our tree in our front yard that what he did is not good. And, before you stand up” She paused and held his shoulder “Next time we meet, I will rip your kidneys from your bladder. Keep that in mind”. Park shot away like a missile, leaving Oli crumble in the sand. Iv and Li followed her leaving the boy who came with Oli tend to him.
